Christian Service Opportunities
Christian Service Opportunities
Our Director of Campus Ministry arranges and coordinates numerous service opportunities, but it is the student’s responsibility to select opportunities, complete the hours, and turn in the paperwork verifying completion.
Students are required to perform their service hours assisting people or agencies that serve individuals who are in need or are disadvantaged. Hours may also be completed by volunteering at approved community events.
Hours may be performed at these kinds of agencies and organizations:
- Soup kitchens
- Nursing homes/assisted living facilities
- Tutoring underprivileged children
- Food banks
- Homeless shelters
- Habitat for Humanity
- Special Olympics
- Crisis pregnancy center
- Hospitals
- Church/school/community fairs (must be approved)
- Service at Mass (altar server, choir, etc.)
Activities that Do NOT Qualify for Service Hours
- Any activity where monetary compensation is received
- Babysitting in any form (school, Church, family, friends, etc.)
- Any activity that would be expected of you as a member of a family (visiting Grandma in a nursing home, etc.)
Recording Service Hours
Verification of the service hour requirement must be on the letterhead of the agency, church, or nonprofit organization where the service was done and should include the student’s name, grade, a brief description of the work done, the date(s) when the work was done, and the number of hours served.
