Schedule and Safety Precautions

Monday, January 13th

Students need to arrive at school no later than 7:45 a.m. and report to the Cheer & Wrestling Building. While students are allowed to leave a vehicle on campus overnight, security is not provided and the school is not responsible for the vehicle or its contents. Students are allowed to bring one overnight bag (packing list is below). To provide a safe retreat experience for our students and chaperones, all bags will be inspected and searched, given a tag, and secured with a zip-tie. The bags will be loaded on a trailer to be transported to the retreat center. As an additional safety precaution, students' pockets and personal bags will be searched prior to boarding their assigned bus.

Tuesday, January 14th

Students will complete the Retreat and return to school at approximately 2:30 PM. Students are dismissed upon their return to school.

Retreat Location

We are excited to host the Senior Retreat at Our Lady of Hope Retreat Center, 3167 Old 51 S, Osyka, MS 39657. The phone number for the retreat center is 601-202-3137 in case you need to contact us for emergencies during the retreat.

Meals & Food

Four meals will be provided for students: lunch, dinner, breakfast, and lunch the next day. Please notify Mr. Songy at hsongy@hannanhigh.org prior to Friday, December 20th if your student has any food allergies or dietary restrictions. Food is not allowed in the student rooms at the Retreat Center so no outside food or drinks should be brought. Snacks will be provided (refer to snacks to share section below).

Packing Guidelines

This is an overnight retreat, so students should pack accordingly. Large bags are not needed - a simple overnight bag will suffice.

Personal Packing List

  • Toiletries
  • Any spiritual materials you may want with you (bible, journal, rosary, books, etc.)
  • Comfortable/appropriate clothing (shorts must be fingertip length and the weather will be rather chilly; jeans cannot have holes or frays, leggings and joggers are appropriate.)
  • Tennis shoes for outdoor activities (sandals are permitted at other times)
  • NO electronic devices (ipads, laptops, etc.)
  • Snack to share with group (see list below)

** Pillows, blankets, and towels will be provided by the retreat center. All of this is laundered through a special service that specializes in high-end sanitation services.

** The retreat center has sports equipment for us.

** Space is very limited on the bus, so please pack lightly.

Prescription Medication Guidelines

Any and all prescription medications shall be provided to Archbishop Hannan High School, to be provided to student as appropriate. No student shall keep any prescription medications to provide their own medication. If the student is going to need prescribed medications during retreat, please reach out to Mr. Songy to fill out a Medical Information Form.

Cell phones

When we arrive at the retreat center, we will collect and secure the students' cell phones so that they can fully enjoy the retreat process. The goal is for them to disconnect from social media and "outside noise" and fully embrace the retreat.

Sleeping Arrangements

We will be utilizing rooms at the retreat center. Students have been assigned to rooms. There will be chaperones and security monitoring the students during the retreat, including nighttime. If any student is caught outside their room past lights out time, the parents will be called to come pick up their child.

Retreat Behavioral Guidelines

Students are expected to adhere to all school rules and guidelines. While all handbook policies are in effect, a few to highlight include:

  • Students should wear appropriate clothing;
  • Students should have no prohibited items. These include, but are not limited to, alcohol, tobacco products, vaping devices, e-cigarettes, weapons, synthetic drug products, any products containing THC, non-prescription drugs, or prescription drugs without a doctor's authorization;
  • Students should not possess any prohibited item, violate the dress code, violate curfew, visit the room of a member of the opposite sex, host a member of the opposite sex in a room, disregard a chaperone's instructions, or violate other school rules.

If a student violates school rules, including but not limited to the guidelines listed above, the student's parent will be notified, and the parent will be required to pick up the student from the retreat center within 2 hours of being notified. The retreat center and / or law enforcement agencies may also be notified if required. Violations of school rules will result in disciplinary consequences for the student as outlined in the student-parent Handbook.
