Our Educational Philosophy
Welcome to the Academics section of our school website. My name is Dr. Donalyn Hassenboehler. As the school's Academic Dean, I am often asked to describe the school's philosophy of education. Archbishop Hannan High School works diligently to set a high rigor for teaching and learning, to hire the best educators, to adopt state-of-the-art technology for quality instruction, to improve the curriculum in both core and elective courses, and to work with all of our stakeholders to add value to what students bring to Archbishop Hannan High School. Our goal is to position Archbishop Hannan High School as the best college prep, coeducational high school on the Northshore.
The foundation of our educational philosophy is religious formation, academic excellence, leadership and character development, social responsibility, and athletic achievement. The rigorous curriculum and graduation requirements are designed to ensure all students a chance for admission to the most demanding colleges and universities in the country.
The Archbishop Hannan High program of studies extends for a period of four years for those entering as freshmen and five years for those entering in eighth grade. On completion of the twelfth grade, the student is awarded an Archbishop Hannan High School certificate of graduation, provided he/she has earned the minimum credits for the college preparatory program.
The courses offered at Archbishop Hannan High School are primarily directed toward providing the student with a well-rounded preparation for college and life. While the courses more than fulfill the entrance requirements of all colleges, Hannan’s academic program also strives to develop the will and intellect of each student. The academic administrators of the school reserve the right to schedule the courses they consider most adapted to the ability of the individual student. It is each student’s responsibility to successfully fulfill all requirements for graduation.
We continue to monitor Archbishop Hannan’s growth on the path from “Good to Great.” The academic administration is so pleased to be working with these students in these times. They rise to every advanced hallmark we place before them, and they rarely balk when we ask even more because they know that our increased expectations derive from our care and love of them and our greatest hope for their futures as graduates of Archbishop Hannan High School.
I hope I have provided you with some understanding of how our school community collectively approaches our ministry of education. Feel free to email or call (985-246-7490) with any questions.
