Applying to Colleges

Our Counseling Department guides students and parents through this process. We encourage you to meet with a counselor to ask questions and learn more about applying to college. In addition, AHHS offers several opportunities throughout the year to learn more about the process and specific colleges and universities.

  • Parent-Student College Night for Seniors: AHHS Counselors provide important details about the application process at Hannan High.
  • College Recruiter Visits: Representatives from colleges and universities around the country conduct informational meetings with prospective students at AHHS throughout the school year.
  • New Orleans College Fair: Sponsored by the Archdiocese of New Orleans and held at the Pontchartrain Center. Provides an opportunity for students and parents to meet with college representatives from across the United States.

The Application Process

As a college prep high school, we encourage our students to apply to college, and we prepare them for higher education success. Our College Counseling Office offers support and resources to guide students and their families through the application process. Counselors review applications and essays, provide practice interviews, and communicate with colleges about application status when needed. We encourage students to select a college where they will be happy, academically challenged, and successful.

We know the cost to attend a 4-year institution continues to rise, prompting more students and parents to look for scholarships and other kinds of financial aid. The AHHS counseling department regularly compiles and updates scholarship information, so check back often.
