Honors and Advanced Level Courses

Archbishop Hannan High School provides a strong, structured, and rigorous curriculum through which students strive to master the intellectual foundations essential for academic success. Our students prepare for the rigors of higher education through a college preparatory curriculum designed to meet the specific national standards for each subject, but also emphasizing the more demanding knowledge and skill level required for success on the SAT and ACT college entrance exams.

The Program of Study

The program of study at Archbishop Hannan prepares our students for success in college. All academic subjects are taught to a college preparatory standard. Students are offered the opportunity to challenge themselves with honors level courses in Mathematics, English, Science, and History. While the curriculum is demanding, academic support at Archbishop Hannan is abundant. Faculty members are available to provide extra help both before and after the school day, or during a mutually agreed period. When required, extra help takes precedence over other activities. We strive to create a school environment conducive to successful learning. With an average 1:20 teacher to student ratio, our faculty is keenly aware of each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and potential.

Academic Honors

Academic achievement is recognized through the Principal's Honor Roll and the Crimson Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recognizes sound academic performance each semester. Inclusion on an one of the Honor Rolls is determined by both G.P.A. and letter grades.

In order to earn recognition on the Principal's Honor Roll a students must:

  1. Have attained a semester cumulative average in all subjects of 3.7 and above
  2. Have attained a letter grade of "A" in each course.
  3. Have no incomplete courses at the end of the semester.
  4. Have a satisfactory disciplinary record

In order to earn recognition on the Crimson Honor Roll a students must:

  1. Have attained a semester cumulative average in all subjects of 3.6 and above
  2. Have attained a letter grade of "C" or above in each course.
  3. Have no incomplete courses at the end of the semester.
  4. Have a satisfactory disciplinary record

Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

Archbishop Hannan offers Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes to those students prepared and able to engage the subject at a more demanding level and pace. During ninth and tenth grades students enroll in pre-Advanced Placement/Honors classes that teach skills critical to success in later AP classes. In the spring each year, students enrolled in any AP class take the national exam for potential college credit.
